Phonics Activities Week Beginning 18th of May

Monday

1: Play the phase 3 diagraph song. They should have a go at doing the actions while they sing. Some of the sounds may be unfamiliar to them but it will help as they start to hear and learn them now. It is important to note that the oo diagraph is pronounced in 2 different ways. It can be long sound or a short sound depending on the word watch the video below as it will explain more.

Now dictate. are he she me was they all was be are all you    for them to write on a piece of paper.  How many did they get right? Now practise any they got wrong.

 

3: Choosing any of the following diagraphs   ng ch sh ee oa play the forest phonics game. Listen carefully to the word and then choose the correct graphemes to spell them out.

 Play ‘Pick a picture’ - select Phase 3 - sets 6-7      

Select phase 2 for an easier mode

Select Phase 3 diagraphs for a more challenging mode.

 

3: Select CVC and any other diagraph you think your child would be comfortable using then press the word go. Read the words, if it is a silly word press the cross if it is a real word press the tick. I wonder how much treasure you will find.

4: Have a go at dictating this sentence to your child using the sounds we have learnt so far. They should have a go independently as you dictate each word, then you can correct their spellings after.

The sentence to dictate is  He has a big food shop’.

Once they have completed the sentence and you have supported them with the correction, can they draw a picture to match their sentence.

1: Watch and join in with the alpha blocks as they make words with the short and long oo  diagraph.

Now play tricky word plat by writing out the tricky words on separate small pieces of paper are he she me was they all was be are all you call out a  word for  your child to splat. Remember to lay emphasises on the words they did not spell correctly before.

 

3: Press on the egg timer to start, then read the word if you get it right click on the tick. How many words can you read correctly before the timer finishes? Play Tricky Word Trucks – Phase2  - all HFW -   or Tricky word Trucks -Phase 3 -all HFW depending  on your child’s phonic knowledge.

Invite your child to read the word as it comes up and tick when read.

Once on the website, Click on ‘Learn to read’ then click on ‘Peg the hen’ under the book section. After the short song, you can click on the arrow that will take you to the sentences, support your child to segment and blend the words to read.

1: Play the song below showing the difference between the long and short diagraph oo. After listening can you find items around the home that have oo diagraph. Are they a long digraph or the short diagraph?
