Art & Design
Art at our school is a vibrant and inspiring part of learning from KS1 through KS2. In KS1, children are encouraged to express their creativity freely through play and open‑ended exploration. They are given the freedom to choose materials and methods that interest them, helping them develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of creating from an early age.
As pupils move into KS2, their artistic skills continue to grow, with clear progression visible across the year groups. Each child has their own art scrapbook, which they can use during lessons, Forest School, break times, or lunch times—whenever inspiration strikes. Children explore a wide range of techniques and materials, from painting and sculpture to clay work, model‑making, and even Lego.
Art is also woven into other subjects. In History, Geography, and Science, pupils begin with Curiosity Questions, then use research and creative expression to explore their ideas. This cross‑curricular approach helps deepen understanding while nurturing imagination and problem‑solving skills.
Creativity is celebrated throughout school life. Pupils share their work in celebration assemblies, take part in art clubs, and enjoy opportunities to experiment with new techniques. A highlight of the year is Art Week in Term 6, when the whole school responds to a shared theme. The week concludes with a vibrant exhibition for parents, giving children the opportunity to feel proud of their achievements and see their creativity valued by the entire community.
