Computing
Computing
At New Road Primary School, we develop computing skills and knowledge through cross curricular tasks. We use purple mash and Mr P unit plans to support the planning of the units covered. A computer science unit is completed yearly by the pupils. Our Key Stage Two classes all have a class set of Chromebooks which they can use to develop their computing skills on. Key Stage One and Early Years Foundation Stage have a shared set of Chromebooks, as well as IPads and tablets to use within the setting to develop and practise skills.
Online safety is an essential skill that we develop with the pupils. Each term, year group follows the Project Evolve units to explore computer literacy in depth. We use circle times to discuss issues that may occur with pupils to ensure all pupils are aware of what they need to do to stay safe online, as well as understanding the behaviour expected. The use and awareness of AI are discussed in these sessions.
All pupils, staff and parents sign an acceptable use policy, which outlines the rules and behaviours we follow. Any online misuse is reported on our safeguarding system CPOMs.
Wake up Wednesdays are shared weekly with Parents on our website and Facebook page to advise them on supporting their child’s use of electronic devices at home.
