Golden Threads at New Road Primary School
Everything begins with our golden threads. They are woven through our curriculum and through our school experiences. They underpin our shared belief that our role is to support children in aspiring to achieve, understand their place in the world as a global citizen and broaden their horizons.

Talk
Oracy is at the heart of our language-rich curriculum which results in highly developed communicators. Children are encouraged to discuss and articulate their thoughts through a mastery approach. They are exposed to a wealth of high quality, ambitious and subject-specific vocabulary.
Curiosity
Our play-based curriculum and enquiry-led learning approach allows the children to learn through natural curiosity and enhances their cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills simultaneously.
Rights and responsibility
Children at New Road are preparing for their future as leaders through a deep understanding of rights and responsibilities. Our strong school and British values underpin our curriculum. Children develop a strong sense of their own identity as well as a school, community and global identity.
Understanding and respect for our local area.
New Road is situated in an area that is rich in history and this is a main driver of our curriculum. We believe in learning from, protecting and improving our local area so it can improve our knowledge and those of future generations.
Diversity and Inclusion
At New Road there are many different languages spoken by children and cultures, religions, heritage and traditions from all around the world. Our curriculum reflects this in the stories that the children read in the class libraries to Geography and History units that they study. All of our children are able to see themselves in our curriculum through books we read, artists, musicians, scientists, parts of the world and famous people in history that we study.
Our displays and environments are planned to ensure that children from all backgrounds can recognise themselves in their learning and their school. Our children experience culture days from around the world that displays the diverse community they are part of.
