Modern Foreign Languages - French
Modern Foreign Languages at our school are taught with energy, curiosity and a strong sense of community. French is taught in the classroom each week, giving children the chance to build confidence in speaking, listening and understanding a new language. At the same time, we celebrate the rich diversity of our school by embracing the many languages and cultures represented in our community.
Children are encouraged to share greetings in their home language during morning and afternoon register, helping everyone appreciate the variety of voices in our classrooms. We also celebrate French Day in Term 6, linking our language learning to Bastille Day and deepening children’s understanding of French traditions.
Throughout the year, we host a series of vibrant cultural celebrations. These include Culture Days featuring food tasting, singing, storytelling and learning new words from around the world. In recent years we have enjoyed African Culture Day, Indian Day, Eastern European Day, British Day and a whole‑school Multicultural Day. This year, we are excited to explore Chinese culture. We also celebrate French Day in Term 6, linking our language learning to Bastille Day and deepening children’s understanding of French traditions.

These events are thoughtfully organised by Mrs King, who works closely with parents from across the school community. Their contributions ensure that children experience authentic cultural traditions and develop a genuine appreciation for the world beyond the classroom.
