Geography

At New Road Primary School, our main focus in Geography is to spark a lifelong curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. This journey begins right at the start in EYFS, where children explore their immediate surroundings through sensory play and local discovery. These early experiences help them build a real "sense of place" and a genuine wonder for the environment. As pupils move through the school, our enquiry-based curriculum bridges the gap between their own lives and the wider world. We want to broaden their understanding of our ever-changing planet, showing them that geography is a dynamic study of the systems and processes that shape all our lives.

Through our broad and balanced curriculum, we empower our pupils by fostering a deep sense of tolerance and empathy for our diverse world. They get to experience a wide range of cultures through high-quality books, exciting cultural events, and in-depth studies of different countries. This helps them understand their place in the global community and encourages them to value how we are all connected

To bring our vision to life, we give our students the practical skills and vocabulary they need to explore geography for themselves. We prioritise hands-on activities and fieldwork, making sure that learning happens both inside and outside the classroom. By the time our students leave New Road Primary School, we expect them to be thoughtful individuals who understand the vital links between human activity and the natural world. Our goal is for them to become well-informed, responsible people who care about the world around them and build qualities that will support them all the way through adulthood.
