KS2
We aim to provide a curriculum which is broad, balanced and prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of their future schooling and later life. We want our children to be happy, safe, confident and resilient learners so that they develop the knowledge and skills they need to be successful. We believe that children learn best through hands on experiences so we provide a range of experiences from theatre visits, VR headsets, Museum trips, weekly forest school sessions and a camping residential in Year 6.
Our school is located around places with rich historical significance and cultural importance that we feel is important for the children to learn about how their community has been shaped through the years. We weave this into our curriculum through experiences such as Fort Amherst, workshops at Guildhall Museum and the Royal Engineers Museum.
We want our children to have a passion for learning that goes beyond school life. We use Enquiry based learning as a way to encourage the children to be independent learners. The children build a set of questions through a topic that they want to learn about aside from the curriculum and time is allocated for them to research and present their independent knowledge to their peers. They present their information in a variety of ways including Lego sets, art work, poems, online books or animations amongst many other ways. The children are proud of what they have learnt and enjoy presenting it to others.
