Physical Education

At New Road Primary School, Physical Education plays an important role in supporting pupils’ physical development, confidence and wellbeing. We follow the Get Set 4 PE scheme of work, which provides a clear, progressive approach to developing physical skills, teamwork and a positive attitude towards physical activity.

Our PE curriculum is carefully planned to ensure pupils experience a wide range of activities. It enables pupils to build on their fundamental movement skills, coordination and fitness and progress to learn tactics and rules of a variety of sports. Lessons are inclusive and engaging, encouraging all pupils to take part, challenge themselves and experience success at their own level. Personal best challenges enable pupils to improve and push themselves without feeling the pressure of always competing against others. Through a balance of individual, partner and team activities, pupils also learn the importance of co-operation, resilience and fair play.

We place a strong emphasis on enjoyment and lifelong participation in physical activity. We help children to develop healthy habits and an understanding of how being active is important for both physical and mental wellbeing.
