Religious Education

Our vision for Religious Education is that it should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge of Christianity and other major world religions (including Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and Sikhism), as well as non-religious worldviews such as Humanism. We also look to develop the skills to reflect on important questions of meaning and belief, and to participate positively in society.

At New Road, our Religious Education (RE) curriculum is designed to promote the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our students. We aim to foster an understanding and appreciation of different faiths and beliefs, encouraging respect and tolerance in a diverse society.

The intent of our RE curriculum is to:

Promote Awareness: Enable students to explore and understand a range of worldviews, including the major religions and non-religious philosophies, in a meaningful and accessible way.

Encourage Critical Thinking: Develop critical thinking skills through inquiry-based learning that allows students to ask profound questions about existence, purpose and ethics.

Cultivate Resilience: Prepare students to handle complex and sometimes contentious issues with empathy and resilience.

Support Personal Growth: Contribute to the personal development of students, helping them to form their own beliefs and values while respecting the beliefs of others.

Foster Community Understanding: Encourage students to understand the role of religion and belief in their communities and the broader society in addressing moral and ethical dilemmas.
